No One Knows Your Chevrolet Like Your Weber Chevrolet Certified Technician
IT’S FILTER AWARENESS MONTH – TIME TO CHANGE YOUR VEHICLES FILTERS.
It’s “Filter Awareness Month” and your vehicle has many filters that need to be changed on a regular basis.
Engine Air Filter
Most notable one is the engine air filter. Regular changing of this can help you achieve better fuel economy, improved acceleration, increased engine life and improved drivability. Studies show that for each gallon of fuel burned, the engine uses up to 10,000 gallons of air; so with that in mind, you can see how important having a clean filter is.
Cabin Air Filter
Like your home, your vehicle has an air filtration system for the cabin air. As air is sent through this filter dust, pollen, and other airborne particles are blocked from entering the passenger cabin. However over a period of time this filter will become clogged and cause increased pressure on the fan motor that pulls air into the cabin. Replacing this regularly will help keep the inside of your vehicle cleaner and healthier.
Oil Filter
An engine doing 60 mph is turning around 2500 revolutions per minute. If you do the math on just a short 20 minute trip to work the numbers are mind-boggling. With this piston travel there is a small amount of blow-by from the ignition phase. This also contains dirt and contaminates that enter into your engine oil. Since this oil is used to lubricate your engine you can see the importance of keeping it clean. As your oil is run through the filter these contaminates are removed, however with the smaller filters used today because of engine design and space requirements it is imperative to change that filter regularly.
Fuel Filter
The fuel delivery system on today’s vehicles is much more complicated than in the past. Vehicles made before 1980 used mechanical fuel pumps and carburetors and could function on low fuel pressure. In today’s sophisticated vehicles the fuel delivery systems operate under extreme high pressure. The fuel injectors found on today?s cars require extreme pressure to vaporize the fuel entering the combustion chamber. It only takes a small amount of rust or debris to clog this device and replacement is not cheap. Also as a fuel filter fills with dirt it takes more pressure to pass the fuel through it causing more work on the fuel pump. With the fuel pump located in the fuel tank, replacement can be expensive. So, again, keeping your fuel filter clean by periodic replacement will save you money down the road.
