GM is increasing its self-driving Chevy Bolt EV test fleet to 300 vehicles
GM is set to increase its fleet of self-driving Chevy Bolt from just 50 to 300 using the Cruise Automation’s sensor suite.
As reported by IEEE Spectrum, documents reveal applications for radio spectrums for the short and medium ranged radars that would be installed on the self-driving Chevy Bolt. The radars would be installed at each corner of a car, behind the fascia. Testing could start as soon as next month. It means that this latest development is likely to make GM’s fleet the largest captive self-driving test fleet. Bloomberg recently uncovered a public filing that shows GM will add more than a thousand employees to its autonomous research operation in San Francisco over the next four years. Everything indicates GM is making progress on it’s plans to deploy thousands of self-driving electric cars in test fleets in partnership with ride-sharing affiliate Lyft, beginning in 2018.
