First-generation Camaro 1967 -1969
The Chevrolet Camaro first appeared in Chevrolet dealerships in September 1966. It was based on a brand new rear wheel drive GM F-body platform with a choice of a straight-6 engine rated at 140 hp or a V8 power plant with an advertised power listed at 290 hp. Chevrolet wanted to keep the horsepower rating down for insurance reasons. The rating of 290 hp occurred at 5300 rpm. The 302 could actually peak closer to 360 hp.

Second generation Camaro 1970–1981
The Second gereration Chevy Camaro was introduced in February 1970. The Camaro was still based on the F-body platform but was restyled and became larger and wider. Similar to its predecessor, the new Chevy Camaro was built with a unibody structure, front subframe, an A-arm front suspension, and leaf springs to control the solid rear axle. Road & Track picked the 1971 SS350 as one of the 10 best cars in the world in August 1971.

Third generation Camaro 1982–1992
The third-generation Camaros were the first to offer modern fuel injection, a Turbo-Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmissions, five speed manual transmissions, or 15- or 16-inch wheels. The third generation Camaro was nearly 500 pounds (227 kg) lighter than the second generation model. The IROC-Z version was introduced in 1985. The “20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition” was offered in 1987, and a “25th Anniversary Heritage Package” was offered in 1992 that included a 305 cu in (5.0 L) High Output engine.

Fourth generation Camaro 1993–2002
The fourth-generation Camaro was relased in 1993. It featuredan updated F-body platform. Optional equipment included traction control and a new six-speed T-56 manual transmission. A small quantity of the SS version came with a 330 HP LT4 small block engine from the Corvette. In 1998, the 5.7 L LS1 was the first all-aluminum engine offered in a Camaro since the 1969. Chevrolet also offered a 35th anniversary edition for the 2002 model year.

Fifth generation Camaro 2010–2015
The fifth generation Camaro received a complete redesign. The all new Camaro went on sale in the spring of 2009 as a 2010 model year vehicle. The car featured either a 3.6 L V6 producing 312 hp or a 6.2 L LS3 V8 producing 426 hp mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with manual shift transmission. The Camaro was named the World Car Design of the Year on On April 1, 2010 at the World Car of the Year Awards.

Sixth generation Camaro 2016–present
The sixth generation Camaro was introduced in May of 2015. The new Camaro is built on the GM Alpha platform. There are three different power plants available to the Camaro. A 2.0 L turbo-charged inline-four producing 275 hp , a new 3.6 L V6 making 335 hp, and the the SS model features the 6.2 L LT1 V8 with 455 hp. The up coming ZL1 model will use a supercharged 640 hp LT4 based on the Corvette Z06. The 2016 Camaro weighs 200lb less than the previous generation and a majority of the architectural components are unique to it.
